I am a student again (Part 1)
The International Society for Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing (ISPRS) organised this Summer School for Phd Students and young researchers, with world renown professors in the field coming all the way from Switzerland, Germany, Netherland, and of course China to conduct lectures and exchange ideas.
I know I don't fall into any of the catogories mentioned, but some how I managed to join them. ha ha ha.
It felt so good to be in school again, listening to the experts explaining things that we could hardly hear from our daily work. After a while, I really feel like picking up my books and do my PHD. Fortunately, the idea flashed through my mind as fast as it cropped up. Frankly, I don't think I have the patience and energy to even think about it. All the students thought I am a lecturer. They called me "teacher". I did not correct them, because no harm pretending to be teacher for a few days.
Living with a group of young adults from different part of the world was fun. I will tell you more on part 2.

Can a lawyer do this to his client?
The buyer's lawyer prepared the S&P agreement and someone from my lawyer' firm called me up and ask me to go through the agreement. Let's be frank, this is my first experience in selling a property (not that I have so many properties), I have zero knowledge on the procedures.
I met this guy in the law firm. To my surprise, he can't converse in proper English. No big deal, as long as he knows his work. My surprise was "upgraded" to a shock when I found out that he can't even explain the clauses in the agreement to me. Of all the questions I asked, his standard answer was " I will talk to my boss on this."
Come on, he is wasting my time and I am paying for all these? I left the firm with a heavy heart. Is the lawyer competent enough to handle my case? I know lawyers nowadays are so busy and if the lawyer meet you in person to discuss things, it has to be a big transaction. A RM80k transaction will not be significant to get him to meet you. But then, isn't lawyer a professional and his staff has to be proficient in work?
I wrote an email to the lawyer as that is the only mode of commucation that can reach him personally. I did this as a consumer. I am entitled to a professional service as I am paying them at "professional rate". He finally agreed to get his partner to handle my case. Again it is too small a transaction for him to handle personally.
I have dealt with many law firms, but all others have clerks who are knowledgeable to deal with. Most of them give intelligent answers, enough to give you an impression that they know their stuff. This particular one really gave me a shock.
I have to stand up for the consumer right! Sorry guy if I put you in a tight position, but please brush up your skill or you will be out in the cold sooner that you think.

Fun Drive n Durian Fest - update
On the way to Kampung Titi, OC Rtn Amus Loo's Volvo car was targeted by "terrorist", a "missile" fired at us but only inflicted a minor damage to the side-viewing mirror. Amus Loo is RM1600 poorer now. So guys, please buy insurance from him to minimize his damage.
Discussion with some school council members was fruitful and arrangement of the Durian and Fruit fest was in orther. We were promised the best durians and fruits selection on the day, D24, "Hong Ha", "Mau San Wong", "white mouse", pandan taste coconut, dragon fruits, pineapple, ciku, star fruits. Special arrangement is being made to visit one of the orchard on that day.
The trip ended with a lunch at Titi restaurant. Our Rtn Nicholas can't stop himself from the "Kao Yok" dish, so much so that addition plate had to be ordered. Rtn BC Khoo was busy with the " Doggy Duck" dish thinking that it is dog meat. Or may be I was wrong, it may very well be "Ducky Dog".
The meal worked wonders on us. We were so relax that we forgot about visiting the Titi Eco Farm. To tell you the truth, we did it on purpose because Rtn Nicholas wanted to go back again to taste the "Kao Yuk" again on the next trip.
Fun Drive n Durian Fest
In order to make the trip more fun-filled, a treasure-hunt look-a-like will be arranged to make sure everyone explores the beauty of the nature and the many interesting views of countryside that most of the city folks tend to overlook. Prizes will be given to the first 5 cars with the most correct answers to the questions.
A durian fest will be arranged in SJK Chun Yin to welcome all the participants. Farmers from the surrounding areas will be donating fruits and vegetables to this event. All the paid-up participants will be able to enjoy as much fruits as their stomachs can carry, and we ensure that all the fruits will be of the best quality.
With the generosity and kindness these farmers have shown, it is only right that we reciprocate by buying more fruits and vegetables for our friends and families. All the proceeds from the sales will also be donated to the school, so, go on a shopping spree, ladies and gentlemen!
On the way back, we will visit a dragon fruit orchard to see for ourselves, many for the first time, how a dragon fruit tree looks like. Dragon always brings good luck, so enjoy the prosperous trip.
To add to the excitement, for those who would like to explore more of the nature, we will recommend that you go a day earlier and spend the Saturday night (21st July 2007) at the famous TiTi Eco Farm. Experience the closeness to the nature where all foods are prepared organically. Details of the resort are in the attached brochure. We can assist to make reservation. If the response is good, further discount is possible.
For those who are interested, please contact konghy@gmail.com or amusloo@gmail.com for registration form.

As I was drying the headlamp area, I saw that the chrome plating of the headlamps are forming bubbles. Now thats not acceptable even though they still function well. I made up my mind that I would make a warranty claim.
Went straight to the workshop, showed the supervisor the defect. In half an hour's time, I am a happy man with a new pair of headlamps.
That happiness only lasted one day. The next morning after a heavy downpour in the night, I saw condensation inside the lenses of the headlamp. Now what? What is wrong here? I have to make another claim? Called the workshop and they ran out of stock. have to live with this for two more weeks.
We are constantly trying to patch things up, solve problems, but very often by doing so, we are creating new problems. But again, can we stop doing that?
